1. 取決(于);有賴(于)
    If you say that one thing depends on another, you mean that the first thing will be affected or determined by the second.

    e.g. The cooking time needed depends on the size of the potato...
           所需的烹飪時(shí)間取決于土豆的大小。
    e.g. What happened later would depend on his talk with De Solina...
           日后之事將有賴于他與德索利納的談話結(jié)果。

2. 依靠;依賴
    If you depend on someone or something, you need them in order to be able to survive physically, financially, or emotionally.

    e.g. They may hate what he does but their survival depends on him...
           他們或許討厭他的營生，但他們要想活下來必須依靠他。
    e.g. He depended on his writing for his income...
           他靠寫作賺取收入。

3. 指望;信賴
    If you can depend on a person, organization, or law, you know that they will support you or help you when you need them.

    e.g. 'You can depend on me,' Cross assured him.
           “你可以信賴我，”克羅斯向他保證。

4. 視情形而定;看情況
    You use depend in expressions such as it depends to indicate that you cannot give a clear answer to a question because the answer will be affected or determined by other factors.

    e.g. 'But how long can you stay in the house?' – 'I don't know. It depends.'...
           “但你能在這所房子里呆多久呢？”——“我不知道，這要看情況。”
    e.g. It all depends on your definition of punk, doesn't it?
           “這全視乎你對(duì)朋克搖滾樂的定義，不是嗎？”

5. 取決于;根據(jù);由…決定
    You use depending on when you are saying that something varies according to the circumstances mentioned.

    e.g. I tend to have a different answer, depending on the family...
           根據(jù)家庭的不同，我往往會(huì)給出不同的答案。
    e.g. People in the rest of the country celebrated independence even later, depending on when the news of Congress's action reached them.
           該國其他地區(qū)的人們慶祝獨(dú)立的時(shí)間甚至更晚，這要取決于有關(guān)國會(huì)決定的消息何時(shí)傳到了他們那里。
